I'll be honest, I liked the idea behind Fiverr.com.
Only a couple of clicks and a client can put an order using a freelancer according to a particular set of deliverables.
Sure, but it comes at a price. A huge one.
This is only the few freelance platforms in which buyers are given free reign to abuse, sabotage and blackmail vendors any way that they like.
In this informative article, I'd like to talk about a recent bad experience as a vendor on Fiverr, and also why I chose to give up on the stage entirely.
How A Regular Order Instantly Turned Into A Hostage Situation
While I have been using Fiverr myself (off and on ) for a little while, this specific experience relates to my girlfriend's account, not my own.
(I have been guiding her on building a reputable account, and how to go above and beyond every previous purchase. Everything stated is that her doing, I'm just an audience )
In cases like this, she had only gotten another $5 sequence on her emblem gig, which appeared to be like another... so we believed.
The order was fulfilled in good time, and my girlfriend had included a bonus emblem concept as well as the source file (which is usually part of the pricier bundle ).
The customer"loved" among the concepts and so we moved to deliver her the appropriates file sizes, as stated in the final description. Soon after, things got a little weird.
The customer came back requesting a social media kit to decide on the logo, something which is clearly not available as part of her post.
In my advice, my girlfriend chose to deliver the further work, despite not getting paid any extra for this.
After that, the customer responded with more demands and a few alterations to the social networking files.
At this point, she agreed enough was enough.
Despite every attempt to please this individual, they were clearly overstepping their bounds here.
That is when the customer went from simply overstepping bounds to unquestionable blackmail. (The equivalent of taking my girlfriend's Fiverr reputation hostage.)
While she took a while to contemplate a response and reach to Fiverr service for assistance, the customer did eventually go ahead and leave a 1 star review.
Presumably this is to demonstrate her he/she was Working at Fiverr: Employee Reviews Indeed.com.pk not kidding.
Shortly after, while still waiting on Fiverr's response to the support question, the customer paid an extra $10 to your social networking kit.
Obviously, the payment was accompanied by still another threat.
Now, all I wished to do was move all Liam Neeson and search this person down so I could repeatedly punch them in the face.
But, in the moment, I had hope that Fiverr Read Full Report service will step in and rescue my girlfriend out of that PITA client.
After the response came from Fiverr service, they told her they could Review of Fiverr.com - Mike Gingerich not induce the purchaser to take the purchase.
Alright, that's fair enough. (though the buyer accepted it, technically.)
In addition they proposed drawing up a listing for the purchaser to demonstrate the work has been done in accordance with the gig prerequisites.
My girlfriend communicated in her initial email the customer was trying to extort her for free work outside the agreed terms, by leaving a negative review if she did not comply.
Obviously, it wasn't about the work, it had been all about seeking protection against an abusive client who had been intentionally pushing his luck.
Their reply didn't offer us some assurance that Fiverr really knew , and even in this stage we felt as though they did not want to get involved.
At precisely the same time, she also responded to the buyers latest threat, explaining that she would not continue to operate with them unless the feedback was changed/removed.
(Again, this will be comments which was clearly and blatantly made to bully her to providing function out of the agreed conditions )
An honest request by anyones standards, correct?
Instead of acknowledge what the buyer had done up until this time, Fiverr immediately turned the tables on my girlfriend.
Turns out, she was the only breaking all the rules.
Because she'd asked the client to modify their opinions, she was no longer eligible for any help from Fiverr support.
You can imagine how we felt studying this.
Everything that the buyer had done and said before her final message was now being swept under the carpet -- like never happened in any respect.
Fiverr essentially opted to encourage a manipulative bully, leaving my girlfriend with a permanent stain on an account she had worked so hard to build up.
If everything that happened was not upsetting enough, it is knowing that this man is still running rampant on Fiverr, preying on defensless sellers with no sprinkling of repercussion.
And think, there are plenty of buyers doing exactly this on Fiverr, knowing they could and will eliminate it.
Well, as most of this was happening, I did a little investigating to determine if some other sellers went through a similar ordeal with a purchaser.
Very quickly, I found a number of nearly equal cases over the Fiverr forum dated years ago. (that's right, years.)
This is clearly something that's been going on for quite a while and it all stems from giving buyers too much power over sellers.
When there's 1 thing I've heard about Fiverr, it's that customers are ALWAYS more valued than freelancers.
Regardless of how much time that you put into a job, or just how hard you worked on itor maybe how long you managed communication in a dispute, even if it actually comes down to it... freelancers have little to no protection.
Even if it is a very clear cut situation in your favour, there is still every chance the customer will come out on top. All it takes it one tiny thing you"did no way" in accordance with their terms of service and EVERYTHING else is ignored
Taking a look at the signs, it's obvious to me Fiverr is well aware of what is going on, yet remains willing to sit back and let it happen.
If you're a decision maker at Fiverr and you're reading this, I implore you to seriously reevaluate your present support procedures for freelancers.
It's not right that somebody can place all the time and effort into building up an account and also over-delivering at every possible chance, only to be taken down from the very people that you rely on to protect you.
Look, I really don't want to abandon Fiverr. I really don't want to be telling folks to avoid your own platform.
But after everything that has happened, you have not left me any decision.
Until something is done to safeguard freelancers from using this sort of abuse, I will continue to propagate this article and do anything I could to prevent others from falling prey to a one-sided support team.
The next you really do something about this and give freelancers a way to fight , I'll be happy to update the post.
